FIX has rapidly emerged as the de facto electronic trading standard worldwide, providing enhanced user benefits for greatly improving the global trading process through defining, managing, and promoting of an open protocol for real-time, electronic communication between financial participants, while complementing industry standards.

How flexible is FIX?

The FIX Protocol was designed to be as flexible as possible, while still offering a basic level of uniformity and consistency. In order to accommodate custom requirements, FIX has been designed to be fully customisable, as the precise order, and definition of many of the FIX fields is left up to the two transacting parties. However, the FPL has gone to great lengths to both root out ambiguities in the protocol as well as provide direction in areas of the protocol that are left open to interpretation.

What Financial Products does FIX Support?

While FIX was originally developed with a focus on listed Equity products, in recent years the FPL has expanded its utility to cover many other financial instruments including Futures, Options, Foreign Exchange, ETFs and Convertible Bonds.
